Some examples of branding initiatives brought to life by working cross-functionally to align the vision of these programs/ platforms.
A collection of some branding I have led, managed and executed during my time at Nike.
My final BFA project illustrates the severe fight between the Democrat and Republican parties. Cartoonist Thomas Nast made the Donkey and Elephant depictions famous in the 1800s, which I use to describe the animalistic fight. These two iconic animals are depicted in a fight where there tear each other apart and the blood splatters on to the ten amendments of the Bill of Rights, showing the effect of the fight on our basic rights.
While there are many factors that may have resulted in the extreme aggression of today’s politics, I believe the contest to interpret of the Bill of Rights is a major factor. This conflict has become very severe in the twenty-first century, with strong opposing beliefs on how the United States should be run. The bloodbath not only divides this country, but also greatly affects the Bill of Rights, which serves as the backbone of this country. The vague nature of these rights lead to very different interpretations between the two parties, despite the intended solid structure they were put in place to create.
I chose to represent this idea in a large banner format similar to 1920s circus ads corresponding to the hectic circus feel of this conflict. The large format and bright coloring call attention to the magnitude of this issue, while the chrome vinyl words allow the viewer see their partial reflection, symbolizing we are all part of the amendments. The combination of traditional circus poster elements and stylistic approaches from the artist, Shepard Fairy, shape the outcome of this work. Shepard Fairy inspired me stylistically with the use of simple graphics illustrating large ideas. Much of his work uses a combination of patterns and crisp lines to catch the eye and draw attention. I incorporated a similar use of simplistic bold graphics with a patterned background to catch the viewer’s eye. This is a personal depiction of how I view the current political structure in our country, as well as it being a way to graphically inform viewers of this issue.
